Do not edit the Twenty Eleven theme. It is the default WordPress theme and having access to an unedited version of the theme is vital when dealing with a range of site issues. Create a child theme for your changes. Then see Resize the Header in a Twenty Eleven Child Theme.

From my dashboard, where do I go to create a child theme from the Project Eleven theme? I’ve created my web site using Dreamweaver and am familiar with html.

You need to create your child theme on your computer using a plain text editor. Then upload the new theme’s folder to wp-content/themes.

Can I create it in Dreamweaver using html?

Can’t you just edit the CSS using the editor under appearance -> editor?

Okay esmi. I found the wp-content/themes on the blog remote folder and will follow your instructions using a text editor, upload and then get back to you as to what I do next. Sorry I’m so challenged in this arena.

Thank you – that’s great. Okay, I think I’ve got the style.css file loaded correctly. Where do I go now to start customizing the page using the child theme?

I have a feeling I’m going to have to get into PHP as well as I want to include my nav bar from the main site on the blog page.
