Custom function not working

Hi.

I want to change the look of the_time() for my posts, and has a funtion that will do that, but I can’t seem to get it working.

I have the function defined at the top of index.php (since I can’t seem to include a custom-functions.php file), and it works when used with a test variable outside the loop, but when trying to add it inside the loop, like so: Spacing(the_time('M j Y')), it doesn’t work. I’m using WP 2.0.

Appreciate any input to this problem.
