Hi, is it possible to create a custom filter by category where it shows:
    – Firstly, the products in selected category;
    – Secondly, the products in selected supercategory (which means other “sibling categories”)
    – Thirdly, all the other supercategories.

So, basically, it’d sort the products by similarity to the first category.

    Hey @leoheise

Thanks for contacting us about Extra Product Sorting Options! I am happy to help out ??

I’m afraid this type of sorting isn’t possible with the plugin at this time, though thanks so much for reaching out to check!

Reading through your requirement, I wondered if one of our other plugins might be a better fit for you. Nested Category Layout allows you to change your shop page so that it displays products by category and subcategories. It also works on category pages too.

You can also have a closer look at how this might look by taking a look at our demo site: https://demos.skyverge.com/product-category/nested-category-layout/

Thanks again or the question! Do you think Nested Category Layout might be a good use case for your store?

    Cheers,
    Steve

Hi! Thanks for the answer. It might work, though I’m not sure. In your example (https://demos.skyverge.com/product-category/nested-category-layout/?orderby=popularity) if I am a customer on your demo website and I want to sort the “Album” subcategory first, is it possible? Would it show the other subcategories in the category “Music” right after or not (e.g. “Music – Album”, then “Music – Singles”, then clothing etc)? How would the order of items be?

    Hi @leoheise,

Thank you for following up with us here. I’m jumping in for Steve, who’s out for a couple of days. I was able to look back over the conversation and I think I have a pretty good idea of what you’re looking for here.

In our demo site, you can see the different categories stacked one after another. The subcategories are ordered by their weight (the order listed in the category admin area).

To get the best idea of how this will work for your specific use case, I might recommend giving the plugin a try. You could certainly purchase Nested Category Layout and if it doesn’t work for your use case, you can return it for a full refund within the first 30 days of purchase.

Would you please let me know if this is helpful and if there’s anything else I can help with?

    Thanks,
    Marcus
