Custom field suddenly missing

  • We have suddenly lost a custom field from the drop down in the classic editor…
    It works as expected when we type it in manually by clicking the enter new link but we would love to have it show up in the drop down list.

    I am also curious if there is a way to delete a custom field we are no longer using from the dropdown without damaging posts that are using it.

    We were able to delete a custom field that was not being used at all to get the missing one to show up again… but it would still be nice to know if we can delete one from the drop down that we no longer want to use but is in use by posts that are many years old.
