Custom Field Question

My site is located here: https://www.ccbookreviews.com.

Just under my post titles I have my info like my name, the date of the post, and my page views. I would like to add before my name a section where I can write a review #.

Would a custom field work in this case?? If so, I just want to make sure I understand the process of setting it up right.

The ‘Key’ would be Review. The ‘Value’ I’d change with every new post to #200 (or what ever # I wanted?)

I then need to add <?php the_meta(); ?> in my temnplate where I want the Review # to appear?

Am I understnading the process right??
