Custom Field Filter Not showing

Are you sure that your users (at least one user) have filled the field with data?

Do you have a Label in the field’s Forms setup?

Yes, our users cannot manage these fields as they are created and set by admins at the time of membership creation. We also do not allow open registration nor are they allowed to alter these specific filter fields.

But after digging into this further I noticed that when I go in and edit a member that shows a board role on the directory page there is not one selected on their profile. So I try to select one and save, shows as saved and shows updated in directory but when going back to edit member it is empty.

Something is obviously getting disconnected or mixed up.

In my code snippet for fixing this issue replace the meta-key fee with your meta-key name.

I tried the code snippet and replaced it with “board_role_1” but it did not resolve the issue.

I have a few other custom fields with the same setup but with different values and labels. Odd that those would work and this field would not.

I am going to build a new custom field with a new meta name to see if that resolves the issue.

How did you enter the dropdown choices?

If you did copy and paste the choices you may have got extra non-printable characters not accepted by UM.

I believe the issue is caused by having the term “role” in the meta-key. When I created a new custom field and profile field named board_role_2 the issue still persisted. As soon as I removed the word role from the meta-key it worked perfectly.

I am not sure if we are unique in needing a field with a label of Role but having it in the meta seems to be the issue.

@missveronicatv your assistance and questions were the only way I would have been able to figure this out, big THANK YOU!

@missveronicatv I did use copy-paste but I have a tool that strips out extra characters and I went an extra step to double-checked when I setup my other test fields. I was worried having commas in the choices was causing issues so I even removed those.

This is how I ended up figuring out the term “role” was the only difference between all the custom fields with dropdowns.

Thanks for letting us know how you’ve resolved the issue. The role is a reserved word to determine if the field is a role field. We will add this to the doc.
