Custom Editor vs. Default WP Editor

Well, the idea is to support block editor but as our user-interface while adding course is different to normal one while adding post, we are still figuring out on how to fit/merge the settings sidebar in Masteriyo if we introduce the block editor in course description section. So, this is somewhat work in progress.

About the question field input, well, the idea is to keep it simple (simple as in simple text field). As most of the times, questions are just lines of text. However, we do have plans to introduce Question Description field later which will be optional and supports more editing. What do you think about this?

For the editor, you know better and the decision is yours, of course. I am not good at scripting and I know next to nothing about the box editor.

As for the question field, what you suggest – as far as I can understand – is to keep the °Question Name” field and add an optional “Question Description” field below that. This reminds me of the question field in Chamilo LMS. This is a good idea. The only disadvantage I can think of at the moment is that if you develop a standard (GIFT, AIKEN, XML, etc. format) quiz or question import/export feature in future, this question description field might cause a problem. It does cause a small problem in Chamilo when we import questions and sometimes each question needs to be edited later on.

Well, for the editor, yes we are trying our best to make it better. ??

About the question field question, we will take your feedback into consideration and make decisions by thinking properly. When we make import/export feature we will make sure that it works properly. Also, adding a new question type that supports HTML or has more flexibility, we can consider this as well.

The idea is to take suggestions/feedback from users and if more users are asking for same thing/feature then we will deal that with priority. ??

Then let me support my view a little bit more.

When rich-text editor is used for the question field (“Question Name” or “Question Description”), it will be possible to add, for eexample, media files and it will be possible for language teachers like me to prepare listening tests. With a rich-text editor that supports LaTex (TinyMCE has plugins for that), lecturers from technical fields will be able to add formulas into this field.

Going back to the general editing field; I mentioned the fact that H5P codes cannot be added at the moment. I strongly believe that H5P is the future of content creation. Currently, as far as I know, three WP LMS plugins fully support H5P (that is, scores from H5P activities appear in students’ gradebook). There was only one WP LMS with full H5P support almost one year ago – and these H5P-support plugins are pro features there). Any LMS that does not follow this trend is bound either to do that sooner or later or to lose market. Enabling users to embed H5P codes into their lessons will mean that you will save for yourself some time before you can fully implement an H5P integration solution for Masteriyo.

@ other Masteriyo users: Say “YES, Hakan is right!” so that Masteriyo developers have no option left but implement this change! ??

Thanks for your feedback. Today, I also raised this with our team in team meeting. For now we will be checking on it from our side and will soon have further discussion on this and hopefully add it in our roadmap.
