Custom Domain of Subsite Redirecting to Main Site

  • I have been baking my noodle configuring a custom domain for one of my WP Multisite subsites. I have read many forum and doc entries on how to do it; yet, the subsite is redirecting to the main site with a landing page saying the site does not exist.

    I have customdomain.com in the WP Site Address (URL) field. The WP Siteurl and Home fields have my subsite address.

    In Amazon Route53 (registrar for custom domain), I have two A Records pointing @customdomain.com and https://www.customdomain.com to my Lightsail static IP running the Multisite. The Route53 nameservers remain unchanged.

    I have the Subsite address entered as an A Record on Lightsail DNS.

    If I type customdomain.com in a browser, it redirects me to the subsite. Great! But if I enter the subsite address, it takes me to the “link doesn’t exist” page. Also, in WP Admin the Dashboard link also takes me to the “link doesn’t exist” page.

    Anyone have an idea to what is configured incorrectly?

    I found documentation at Lightsail for adding a custom domain. The one step I missed was assigning the name servers of the custom domain to Lightsail and creating a DNS to point it to the WP static instance. I am waiting for propagation. Hopefully that resolve it.

    Adding the nameservers to Route53 as record entries does not apparently update them. It appears they must be changed in the hosted zone details. I have done that today and will update this forum again after prop.

    Nameservers were updated. URL still not working. Any suggestions? Anyone?

    I checked with Amazon and my DNS entries are all correct. Can someone help with why my Multisite would say that the subdomain does not exist? Thanks!
