• I’m really liking this theme – but now I’ve run into a problem using custom colors.

After adding 8 colors to the custom list and assigning the colors to objects on the Front Page, I am unable to save the page.

I get a red bar that says “Saving failed.” No other information.

Thank you for reporting this issue.

I have tried to recreate the problem by adding 8 custom colors, and then adding 8 paragraphs on the front page and setting each paragraph text color to one of the new custom colors. The page template saved OK with no problems or error/warning messages.

    Could you please let me know some additional information such as;

    • WordPress version (e.g. 6.0.2 is latest)
    • Is Gutenberg plugin active? (if yes, what version)
    • Other active plugins?
    • What are the objects that you assigned the custom colors?
    • Are the objects core blocks or blocks from a third-party plugin?
    • How are the colors assigned? (e.g. text color or background, or some other block plugin’s own color option?)

Additional information will help me to try and recreate the issue, and find out what is causing it, and then we can report it upstream in WordPress core or Gutenberg. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the response/questions. Here are my answers:

WordPress version (e.g. 6.0.2 is latest)
    I am using 6.0.2

Is Gutenberg plugin active? (if yes, what version)
    No

    Other active plugins?
WP Maintenance Mode & Coming Soon
    Yoast Duplicate Post

What are the objects that you assigned the custom colors?
    Groups and Columns

Are the objects core blocks or blocks from a third-party plugin?
    Core

How are the colors assigned? (e.g. text color or background, or some other block plugin’s own color option?)
Colors are assigned to background in a Column that contains text blocks, image block and button block
Colors are assigned to background in a Group that contains columns, text blocks and button block

FWIW, I reduced my custom palette to four colors – in case that was a limitation. There are nine colors in the original theme plus four custom = 13 colors, total.

    Thanks for the detailed info.

If you deactivate all plugins does the issue still exist?

I have tried to recreate the problem with the same plugins activated and creating content with backgrounds like you describe, but the page saves without fail every time.

Are you able to check the browser console for errors or warning messages?

To view browser console right click anywhere on the page, select ‘Inspect’ and then the ‘Console’ tab. Look for any errors in red text.

Thanks for the effort on this. In the interim, I went back to the page and found that *all* custom colors had been removed from the objects where I had assigned them. (The custom palette still existed, but not the object asssignments.)

As a test, I swapped browsers to Safari and everything worked fine. So, I’m going to put this down to an incompatibility with the original browser (Edge) instead of a theme issue.

    Thanks again!
