Custom category pages and headers.

  • Hello,

    I am slowly learning how to create my own custom WP themes. One aspect I am stuck on is categories. How would I create a custom category template that for instance uses a custom header? I tried copying my archive page and creating a new file ‘category-design.php’ for example but it doesn’t show in the admin area.

    Even with the template, there still needs to be a category term created whose slug is “design” in order for that template to be used. The end user could do so manually, or you could do so via code by using the the theme activation hook.
