• I discovered something and perhaps it’s a bug?
If you leave the media settings (image sizes) in place, normally the first one is 150×150 in size, and then you go to upload a custom background image, a problem shows up.

After uploading a large image such as 1600×800, the background preview pane defaults to the 150×150 thumbnail image. However, once you save that and view the front of your site, you get the full image but the preview in the dashboard still shows the 150×150 thumbnail.

Not a major issue, but kind of annoying I would think for some people who will think their image is going to tile on the front-end.

  • Can you replicate the problem using the default Twenty Fourteen theme with all plugins deactivated?

Ah…forgot to mention that, thanks for reminding me esmi. Yes, I tried it with the Twenty Fourteen and sure enough, it shows the titled 150×150 thumbnail in the preview window. The only time it doesn’t do this is when I blank out all media size settings. As for plugins, I made sure that was taken care of too…which was just the akismet plugin that was installed and deactivated (no other plugins).

Are you using Appearance -> Background or Appearance -> Customizer?

    Appearance >> Background

That’s not intended to be a WYSIWYG view. Just an overview of how a whole page might look with that background. It’s working as expected.

Which is why it’s not a major issue, just that it could confuse some users. Anyway, thanks esmi for following up. Cheers!
