Custom Archive Template Being Ignored – SOLUTION
-
I ran into a problem tonight where my custom archive-podcast.php template was being ignored by WordPress. While searching the support forum, I noticed several others spanning years back had never received an official answer to remedy the problem. For anyone else who is searching and are not finding a way, here’s what I did to make it work.
I disabled “podcast post types” in settings. Previously, I had “posts” checked. By removing any association to post types, my custom template took effect immediately. I would guess it has something to do with the main archive template taking over based on WordPress template hierarchy.
