Hi I’m self-taught so don’t understand php coding. However I’ve managed various fixes just by doing as I’m told without understanding how it works. So I’m trying to create a custom 404 page using this tutorial

    https://www.elegantthemes.com/blog/tips-tricks/creating-custom-wordpress-404-error-pages

I have my child theme installed and I’ve created the 404.php file. I haven’t even got to the sidebar bit yet, as when I try to access a page that doesn’t exist I get the correct custom error message but my footer is all over the place – the 4 footer areas have disappeared and each footer area content is now stretched across the full page.

    Here’s my site: https://anyoldlights.co.uk

    Any advice greatly appreciated.

    Hi!

That’s awesome you are taking this on!

What theme are you using? What steps did you take to create the 404 file?

I’m using Divi – the instructions are in the elegantthemes link above

Since that is a commercial theme, we ask that you please go to their official support channel, so you can get support from the people who know it best.

    https://www.elegantthemes.com/forum/

Forum volunteers are also not given access to commercial products, so they would not know why it is not working properly. Other community members who may have faced your issue might be able to help you but your best bet is your product’s developer. Keep in mind we encourage you to use the official support venues, as it allows the developers to be aware of issues with their code and gives back to the community in a more robust way.

    No worries. ??

You had a question and weren’t sure where to turn to. I’ve done it a few times myself. Hope you get it fixed! ??
