• Hiya Guys

Got an odd one on this site that we can’t resolve. It manifests in several ways that may or may not be related.

    1. The plugin DB Optimiser pro gives an error message when I try to activate it. The developer says that curl is not installed.

    2. The plugin Imagify shows an error curl is not installed on certain files in bulk optimisation and it won’t optimise those files after ages trying.

    3. WP rocket clear cache message pops up and when I click clear cache it takes me to a new blank page. I have to click back to go back to dashboard or where I was with a message greeting me of cache cleared. This may or may not be related to the curl issue.

My server admins assure me curl is installed and indeed wordpress server shows this in site health with versions

    8.0.30 PHP
    7.61.1 Curl

Any ideas on this one please?

The issue may arise due to differences in the versions of cURL and PHP, causing the system to be unable to recognize cURL. Typically, each server hosts multiple PHP versions, and it is crucial to ensure that the PHP version utilized in your WordPress installation aligns with the PHP version in which the cURL extension is installed.

    Hi Guys

I think I have figured it out.

    1. I downloaded DB optimiser plugin to clean up the DB. During activation of this I got an error and when I emailed the developer he said curl was not installed.
    2. At the same time I noticed errors in Imagify also saying curl is not installed.
    3. I then set about getting my server admin and also inmotion to check if indeed curl is installed (It is).

Upon further investigation this is what i think has happened.

    1. At some point Imagify became corrupt (hence the errors) I do not know when this was. But it must have been ages ago as I do not have a backup with it working. Imagify was then also deleted by the speed guy thus unsynching all the images it had imagified.
    2. Imagify was then reinstalled but now all the images are unsynched so it shows them as imagified but you do not have the option to restore the original version. The errors are still there and because it is all unsynched you get the curl error when you try and imagify any image.
    3. The curl issue persisted because I had two plugins supposedly with curl issues. However The DB optimiser plugin one i think is actually his server side and us not being able to connect to it.

We are going to replace all the imagified images with original versions and then delete the imagified ones. This is no small task as I think we have to do it one at a time. Once done we will delete all the imagified and web P images out of the DB.

Any ideas on how to do that the easiest and fastest way would be welcome.
