• First, let me say I have been reading the other threads… and have come close to solving this.

Second, thank you to everyone for their help.

Third, I had a working WPMU site that I did upgrade okay to wp3.0. Then in the process of adding some code to the config file, I killed the connection. I couldn’t get it back.

So, I decided to start afresh. I replaced the code in the rood directory with a brand new version of wp3.0.1. I made a new database. I began the set up. (yet again.)

Ok… one thing I have learned is that you should set the pretty permalinks first.

Now… the buddy press works. the network is set up.

    Two things are happening:

    No CSS on the Sites
    No dashboard for the sites.

BTW, I still have the original database with all it’s parts.

I had to make the mu-plugin folder manually.

    If this means anything.

    Thank You All!

Go to Tools -> Network. Look at the box with the .htaccess code. Is that the same as the .htaccess code on the server?
If so, tell your webhost that your htaccess file changes aren’t sticking.

    Thank you, Andrea.

    I did that.

It’s bluehost.com if that means anything.

While online with a chat support dude, I changed the name of the file to htaccess.txt from .htaccess….

And it made the “groups” etc pages on the buddypress enabled facelook site not work.

    https://autobituary.net is my site.

    https://autobituary.net/testsitetwo/

IS the address of the subsite that isn’t working.

I can’t even get to an admin panel.

    Thank you again!

Then I renamed it back to .htaccess and it worked.

He said that meant it was being applied.

I sure do appreciate your help.

they may have to force it to be read. IME that’s what fixes it.
otherwise, it coudl be a bug (yes, there’s a trac ticket already)

just so I know the vocabulary …. what do I say to bluehost: how does blue host force it to be read?

    trac ticket… hmmm..

Should I install wp3.0 as opposed to wp3.0.1 until the bug is resolved. Is that possible?

I sure would like this to work…

    Thanks again.

    One more thing:

In the database tables for the sub”site”

    wp_5_

there aren’t the following tables like there are in the main “blog”

    registration
    signups
    site
    sitemeta

    Should there be?

Does what I wrote above make sense?

    main “blog” tables.

    That might be clearer.

there aren’t the following tables like there are in the main “blog”

    registration
    signups

    Should there be?

    No, those are global tables.
