• My nested lists for the sidebar appear perfect in both IE and Firefox on my local install which is an exact replica of the web install. When I copied the sidebar over with an additional option, it was completely messed up. Can anyone think of a reason why that would be?

Both theme folders are exactly the same.

  • What do you mean by “completely messed up” in detail?

Does the page load with *any* CSS or is there no CSS applied at all?

it loads with css but the nested lists are not showing in an orderly fashion on the sidebar, but instead spread out amongst the page. I can’t give a link because I don’t want the website to look disorderly.

No-one here will mind what it looks like and if you’ve come asking for help your best to give a link – you can always edit the link out later if you want.

What I meant was that I didn’t want to upload the sidebar.php file that made the website look disorderly because there are users of the website on a regular basis.

I had hoped by doing the local install that I could have an exact mirror, thus making all the changes offline and having no “downtime” to the online blog.

I was able to fix the sidebar issue (an unmatched ul) but it disturbs me that my local install test showed a perfectly aligned and nested list but when I uploaded that same sidebar.php file, the online blog was disordered.

I just wondered if someone could point me to where I may have erred in the local install that could explain why the sidebar.php and the style.css could possibly be different from the local v. web install. Hope I have explained that appropriately.

    Hi again,

if you do not want to show, try looking at your CSS as displayed in the Firefox webbuilder/webmaster extension. If it loads as you wrote it, you can fiddle with it while looking at it. It it doesn’t load as you wrote it, you may have to hunt for the reason why. One reason may be that your theme doesn’t draw on the CSS file you altered, instead it calls a different file.

Janelittle, no problem there, I see what you mean.

The local site might differ as WordPress uses php to bring up some html markups, especially if you use widgets. If you have a calendar or ads, you’ll be able to save a copy of that page, but locally, it is going to differ from what happens once it is uploaded to a server.

    Hope that helps.

That does help because I noticed that the website calendar was completely off. Thanks for the clue. I will go asearching!
