Ok that may explain the problem…. Go to Pages and find the page which the plugin creates on activation called knowledgebase. This page should have the shortcode on it, and be assigned the page template called KBE. Please check this page and report back

The page is there and has the shortcode on it.
It is assigned to the standard template of the theme, but the KBE template is not in the list.

    Hi Martyn,

Still your KB style is missing. See this screenshot. Wrong path is given.

If the KBE template is not in the list it means that the template files and CSS probably did not copy across to your theme correctly. There are many reasons why this could have occurred, most likely something simple like a permissions block on that folder.

The solution is easy – simply copy the files from the /template folder of the plugin into a folder in your active theme directory named “wp_knowledgebase”.

Alternatively you can remove whatever permissions blocks you have on the theme directory and then deactivate and reactivate the plugin to initiate those files to copy across automatically.

I have checked the template folder; all files are accounted for and permisions are in order I think (755).
I copied all files from the template folder into a new directory at ../wp-content/themes/suffusion/wp_knowledgebase/ and de-/re-activated the plugin. This had no effect.
I then copied the wp_knowledgebase folder into the child-theme’s folder (as suggested by Joel) en again de-/re-activated the plugin. This has an effect, although not the right one yet. The content has now shifted outside the main page.

Ps. the KBE template is now present in the page attributes panel and is selected for this page.
I think it could be a conflict between the custom template and the way the theme handles templates.
I will change themes to see what happens if traffic stops for the day (I’m in CET btw)

Ok that looks to be working better now the templates & css exist in the right place. I think now you just need to tweak the template to work nicely with your theme. Eg give the container some padding, maybe make it full width and remove the sidebar?

How do I get the post back in the page? I don’t see how a little padding can fix that. If I need to make extensive changes for it to work, than this plugin is not for me. I need a plugin that works ‘out of the box’.
It can’t be the theme or my mods because I’ve used others that work just fine.
Thank you for spending all this time, but I think your plugin needs a little more work.

A plugin of this complexity definitely is not going to be 100% perfect out of the box on 100% of themes. If you’re not confident doing a little css tweaking then yes, you should definitely look for a code-free option; eg purchasing a Knowledgebase theme, or paying a developer to help you get it set up. Any of the more complex plugins (aka plugins that generate multiple pages, layouts etc) are going to fall into this category.

Anyway, thanks for giving it a try, and sorry it did not work out for you. Best of luck with your project ?? Hope you find a good solution that works best for you.

    Cheers,
    Maeve

    Attn: Joel James,

I hope you’re still getting notifications of this thread. I modified the index.php file in the plugin folder like you suggested, and all my problems went away.

Awesome call! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!!!!

Finally I get to use this awesome plugin with a StuidoPress Child theme. I didn’t have move template files, change any other php files – nothing. All fixed.

    Thanks again!

    Great webauthor
