css menu problem

I screwed something up and I cannot figure out what the issue is. On my main nav, in the hover state, there should be a dark red background but for some reason when I hover the background floats up above the text. Can anyone explain what I did wrong or how I could figure this out? I looked at the css and I don’t see where I went wrong.When you hover over the link it should just be a rounded button.
