CSS help beginner at wordpress themes

    Hi, i’m struggling with customising the blankslate theme. Its probably my lack of skills with CSS.

    What i’ve done so far is:

    personalisedflags.com

    I don’t understand how the menu works (currently my side menu) I keep getting the footer coming too far up and the same happens with the search. It goes crazy when searching. I don’t know if i’m doing something wrong, like using absolute positioning or not putting things in the right place but could really do with a hand.
