• Hi, I’m using a WP blog to document my world wide motorcycle travels and trying to determine if the Snapshot theme is going to work for me.

Right away I can’t seem to get the images cropped properly for the Slider. I’ve tried cropping the photo in the media library but it has no effect on the Slider image. I’m not certain if I should be cropping the thumbnail here or not? Can someone provide and basic explanation of what’s going on here.

I prefer hot linking my photos so having to upload yet another copy of my photo is a turn off for me as I’m often on poor internet connection where I travel.

    Thanks in advance.
    Mark.

@miserygoat – found a solution yet? I checked out your blog and it looks great.

I’m having a similar problem with Snapshot Theme on my site; my photos are cropped ok for the slider, but not for individual posts.

You can see the problem on my blog here.

I tried to contact their support, but haven’t heard back yet; hoping to glean some knowledge from you.

Yeah, I don’t think the “support” is all that it’s cracked up to be unless you pay for the upgrade.

I’ve been cropping the images I upload to the media library so that they look good on the slider. Unfortunately I haven’t figured out how to make them also look good in preview image below the slider. Not sure if this is called a thumbnail or not. I tried cropping the images within the media library but have yet to figure out which images this impacts. Oh well, another WP theme that is wonky, it looks good enough I guess..sigh.

I can’t be certain from what you entered if you are having issues with the display as it relates to the image size but if so this might help. The images they are using for the slider are 1600×1148 pixels at 72 dpi (I pulled the image of the girl in red to test it). The image is posted full size at the dimensions above and it appears that the program creates a “window pane” focused on the center horizon. I don’t have this theme installed but if you add your image to the slider at the dimensions above you will see how the program handles it and if it takes care of your issue. I hope this is helpful. Cheers. Georgia

Thank you, Georgia. I have a pretty good handle on the required image size for the slider. Where I’m getting hung up is finding the size/crop aspect ratio that achieves a good fit in the slider as well as the preview of the post that is displayed below the slider. I’ve been lucky and some of my images happen to fit both well. But a handful of the images, though they appear ideally in the slider, are less than ideal in the preview. If that makes any sense. Thanks for the reply.

No problem. Good luck. I installed the theme to see what it is doing. It seems since the “feature” image is also the slide it’s zoomed to fit if you try to crop it for the thumb. If you use the full size image it goes to center horizontal and center vertical for the slide and the thumbnail. I think your impulse that it may just have to be ok as it is, is the best path. BTW–beautiful work!
