CRON Questions

Hello, I have a number of large sites that I need images done on. Some are small enough to run the bulk feature, but others will take much more time. I tried setting up the cron but realized that it does turn off my wp cron when set to true, which affects my other plugins. Is there a way to add a cron job that doesn’t do this? Secondly, with cron, how many images does it process each time it runs when it is trying to eat up a ton of images?
