    Hi,

Is it possible to set up a cron job ?
I think It was a premium feature in MailPoet 2 so I don’t know if it’s already available here (or maybe it is, but it’s not visible in the user interface).

I never set up a cron job before so I’m not very familiar with this. I have another question about this : If I understand, setting up a cron job allow me to set a higher sending frequency ? EVEN if it’s more than the “max_execution_time” of my server ?

Right now the value for max_execution_time is 300. So I set up the sending frequency to the maximum I could : 300 mail / every 5 min.
If I set up a cron job on my server I will be able to have more than that ?

Also, I’m sending via a SMTP service (SendGrid). Maybe I don’t even need to be restricted by the max_execution_time of my server ?

    Thanks,
    Clement

  • Hi Clement,

MailPoet 3 comes with its own implementation of newsletter task scheduler (cron). Under Settings->Advanced you can configure how the scheduler is trigger: when someone visits your web site (only 1 visit is required, then the scheduler will run until all jobs are finished) or by using a MailPoet script (scheduler is always idling in the background and processing jobs as they come). You are not limited by your host’s max_execution_time unless it’s set to less than 30 seconds.

Please inquire with SendGrid about your plan’s hourly limits, if any.

    MailPoet Team.

    Hi, thanks for your answer.

When I put a higher frenquency there’s a warning message saying it’s a lot and that I should send a maximum of 1 mail per second.
So i have to ignore that message ?

    Thanks,
    Clement

    Re,

Correct, you can just ignore that message unless your sending plan with SendGrid has limits (until mid-last year they had hourly limits on their “light” plan, and perhaps other limits still exist for other plans). Most likely your server won’t be able to to send more than 1 message per second anyway (it takes time to open/transmit/close SMTP connection).

If you sign up with our own sending service (https://account.mailpoet.com) you will enjoy speeds of 20 messages per second, unlimited messages, automatic bounce handling, and a free premium version ($100 value).

    Regards,
    MailPoet Team.
