I uploaded the Twenty twenty four theme to my wordpress.com with business plan. It worked fine yesterday, but this morning, the site itself was fine, but when in the admin panel, I can’t access posts, editor etc. I get a whte page with the following:

There has been a critical error on this website. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.

I’ve checked my email and I don’t have any instructions. I followed the trouble shooting guide, and switched back to twenty twenty three theme and everything is working fine, so I think it is the theme. I still want to use 2024. What can I do to make it work?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Do you get the error if you disable all plugins?

Thanks Harry! I didn’t disable plugins, because the troubleshooting guide says to change themes, and if it works, it’s the theme. But after your response, I deactivated all plugins, which all I had were ones wordpress installs automatically. Then I reactivated one by one. It’s Gutenberg. All the others are fine, but Gutenberg gives the error and I have to change back to twentytwentythree to be able to do anything. I’m not sure if I need Gutenberg?

    Good to know…

As a suggestion, you might alert the Gutenberg plugin folks regarding the problem. Because the Full Site Editor constitutes a major change, I’ve no doubt there’ll be lots of problems to work out before things settle down (probably a year from now).

    Additional commentary…

I have not installed the Gutenberg plugin in any of my websites. I have installed Spectra and Gutenverse, but to date, I’ve not used any of their blocks/patterns. (I’m trying to keep the installations as close to core WordPress as is reasonably possible.)

Note that the Gutenberg plugin has “been tested” up to version 6.3.2, and the plugin has significant low ratings. Presumably, lots of people are having lots of issues with it.

Thanks for the info! I didn’t install it. I only have the plugins wordpress automatically installed. I deactived several that I know I won’t use. I’m glad to know that I will be fine without it. And again, thanks for your help! it is greatly appreciated.

FYI, Gutenberg is the nickname for everything new in WordPress since WP 5.0.
There is no need to install the Gutenberg plugin. This plugin contains features that may come in future versions of WordPress. Normally this plugin is not installed unless you want to experiment with future features.
