I update my participants every week by adding a new participant. Before today there was an update to Participant Plugin now Version 1.9.6.2, WordPress is on Version 5.3.2 the error message is “here has been a critical error on your website.”

My host BlueHost.com returned my WordPress back to Version 5.3.2 but error was the same. So they suggest that it could be the plugin.

Can you please email me a zip file of the previous plugin to Version 1.9.6.2 or suggest something else.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

When the website shows a message like that, it sends an email to the admin with details about the error. In order to know what the problem is here, we need to know what the exact error was.

This will also be available in your php error log. You can ask you web host about that if you don’t know where to find that.

I much prefer to find the problem and fixe it in case other users run into it. Thanks!

Hi thanks xnau, I eventually managed to get the error_log which I am attaching I hope this is what you want to try and resolve my error.

I’m having the exact same issue after upgrading the plugin a few days ago. When I try to add a new member I get that error message. In my case one of the fields records the following contents after I enter the correct information and try to submit the new member:
    tamiamiarc.org/edit-member/?pdb=174

I see this when I list participants. Some of the field info for the new member has been accepted and stored but not all. After the error occurs, I can not edit any field in the record without the submit command causing an error.

@medway thanks, that’s helpful. I’ll get a fix out soon.

@paul9aber can you post the error message? I just want to be sure they really are the same thing.

There has been a critical error on your website. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.

BTW. I’m using Bluehost as well.

OK, what is your WordPress timezone setting?

This is in the main general setting menu. I’m trying to see how you’re getting that timezone, so I can reproduce the problem in my tests.

Post the value you see there (thanks!), then test using a different setting that gives you the same timezone (either a city or a UTC value).

Oh darn. My time zone was UTC +0. Guess I never set it correctly years ago when I created the site. After changing the time setting your plugin works just fine. Was able to edit and submit the new participant’s info.

Boy do I feel really, really, DUMB! So sorry to have caused you to spend time on this stupid user error problem. Your effort is much appreciated, and your plugin is EXCELLENT. Thank you for making if available to WordPress users, and for your OUTSTANDING customer support.

No, it’s great you reported it, others with the same problem will know what to do to fix it. Thanks!

Hi are you still working on my error following me sending the error_log for Critical Error? See HERE

The fix is you need to re-save your WordPress timezone setting. Looks like the setting is stored in the wrong format, re-saving it should fix that.

    Thanks that has worked fine.
