Hi, I tried updating to the latest version of WordPress (5.6) today, but now I get the message that there was a critical error on my website when trying to access the login page.
I have already tried renaming the plugins folder as well as enabling the debug mode, but I still can’t access the login page.

What should I do to fix this problem?

    Thank you in advance,

    Max

Please check your admin email if you have received details about error happening.
If you have not received mail – check your server’s PHP error log, search for “Fatal” near the end of file.

Unfortunately, I haven’t received any emails with details about the error.
And sorry, but how do I access the PHP error log?

Fatal error: require(): Failed opening required ‘/home/vol9_8/epizy.com/epiz_27359638/htdocs/wp-includes/class-wp-application-passwords.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/share/pear/’) in /home/vol9_8/epizy.com/epiz_27359638/htdocs/wp-settings.php on line 239

That’s the error I get now when trying to access the login page.

Check if you have this file ‘/wp-includes/class-wp-application-passwords.php’ in your installation, if not, try to make a manual update:

    Updating WordPress

or if you have a backup, just restore your site and try to update again (it can lead to the same result).
Sometimes it can be a problem with permissions of a user an a server itself under which site is running.
If you will be able to restore your site, try to check Site Health firstly before doing anything else: ‘Dashboard > Tools > Site Health’

Thank you very much, I’ve made a manual update now and everything works again! Really appreciate your help ??

It sounds like the upgrade may have failed. I’d recommend manually installing 5.6, or manually downgrading to 5.5.

Your host may provide a tool to do that, but if not please check out the documentation.
