• I installed the SESSIONS plug in onto my wordpress site. Once I logged out of the Admin panel, I was unable to log into my website. I kept receiving an error message that said:
“There has been a critical error on this website.”
I have restored the website from a backup and I still get this error message.
    Can you please help me?

    Hello @doc1234 !

    Sorry to hear that…
Can you tell me if the backup you’ve restored was done before installing Sessions? Was it integrating DB and files?

    Hi Pierre,
Thank you so very much for having answered me so promptly.
I performed a backup BEFORE installing Sessions and that is the backup that I used to restore my wordpress site and I am still getting the “There has been a critical error on this website” error message and I cannot get my website to come up.
Incidentally it DOES allow me to access the wp-admin for my site. I just can’t access my site itself.
Yes. I believe that Sessions was integrating DB and files.
Thank you so much for helping me. I am really worried since my FAMFF.COM website has been offline from the Internet ever since this error happened.
    Thankfully,

Thank you for these details @doc1234.
Now, what I don’t understand very well is: if you restored a backup that was done before installing Sessions, there is no Sessions plugin in your current restored site. So, what is the reason you think Sessions cause your issue if it’s not installed on your site? Can you explain me more, because I think I’m missing something in your explanation…
    Thanks.

    Hi Pierre,
Thank you so much for getting back to me so promptly.
I agree completely with you. I also do not understand why, when I restored my wordpress site from a backup that did not have the Sessions plug in installed, I STILL kept getting the error message that says “There has been a critical error on this website.”
It is as if there are some residual files left by SESSIONS on my website which continue to make my website not visible, even though I have deleted SESSIONS.
As I mentioned, for some reason I still AM able to log into my WP-Admin back end for my FAMFF.COM website. I just cannot pull up my LIVE website FAMFF.COM.
There must be residual SESSIONS files on my FAMFF.COM site (or files that were removed) which are making my live website not be able to be seen.
I am so very thankful that you are taking this time on a Saturday to help me.
My email address is [email protected].
I would be more than happy to compensate you for your time if you would be so kind as to do a screen share with me via Google Meet or Zoom so perhaps you can help me to fix my web site.
    Appreciatively,

    Hi @doc1234
I’m pretty sure it’s not done by Sessions plugin. Once deleted the sessions directory (which is done when you uninstall and delete a plugin via your wp-admin interface), nothing left on the server about Sessions. Moreover, Sessions does not modify any file on the server: it just store things (for itself) in database, that it!

I understand your problem and maybe you have a problem with your theme (have you tried to switch just for testing?) or another plugin (have you tried to selectively deactivate them to test?) or maybe a problem on your server (php version, etc.)?

What is certain is that it is not my “job” to fix sites, sorry: I am just not good at it! I am not equipped for and I don’t know how to really do (where to start, what steps, etc.). I’m sorry for that. Maybe could you hire a pro to help you?

Hope you will find a solution to your issue.
    Pierre

    Hi Pierre,
Thank you so very much for your kindness in getting back to me so promptly and for having spent so much time on my issue.
The reason why I suspect that the Sessions plug in is the cause for my inability to view my website is because the Sessions plug in is the only thing that I did before this inability for my website to be seen online happened.
I will look into the things that you have mentioned (the Theme, Other plug ins, server etc).
Thank you again for your willingness to help.
    Yours,
    Osvaldo Wesly
