    Hi @richard_vermeer,

    Critical error for Woocommerce 8.3.1

From what I understand, you’re encountering a critical error with WooCommerce 8.3.1. Specifically, it seems like there’s an issue with opening the required Autoloader.php file from the WooCommerce plugin directory on your staging site.

I’ve tried to replicate the issue on my end using the latest versions of WordPress, WooCommerce, and our free Storefront theme, with no other plugins enabled. However, I was not able to reproduce the same error. This suggests that the issue might be specific to your site or server environment.

In light of this, I would recommend a few steps that might help resolve the issue:

    1. Update all your plugins and themes: Ensure all your plugins, themes, and WordPress itself are updated to the latest versions. This could solve any compatibility issues that might be causing the error.
    2. Check File Permissions: Ensure that the file permissions for your WooCommerce plugin directory are set correctly.
    3. Disable all plugins except WooCommerce: Temporarily disable all other plugins except WooCommerce. If the error disappears, it’s likely one of the plugins is causing a conflict. You can then enable them one by one to identify the culprit.
    4. Switch to a default theme: Change your theme to a default one like Storefront to check if the error is theme-related. Here’s a handy guide on testing for conflicts: ?? How to Test for Plugin and Theme Conflicts.

If none of these steps solve the problem, could you please share your site’s System Status with us? This will provide us with a better insight into your site’s setup and help us diagnose the issue. You can find it via WooCommerce > Status. Select Get system report and then Copy for support.

Once you’ve gathered this information, please paste it inside a Code block in your reply, or use https://pastebin.com to paste it and share the link with us.

Thanks for your patience and cooperation in this matter! We’re here to help you get this sorted.

    Hi Tamrat,

    1. All themes, WordPress and plugins are up to date.
    2. File permissions are the same as the live website on the same domain.
    3. Deactivated plugins, no change. I was not able to reactivate Woocommerce (it had been deactivated due to the critical error).
    4. Changed theme, no change.

What I did: Deleted the Woocommerce plugin and installed and activated it again. Now it seems to be working. Hopefully it still is in the morning…

    Hi @richard_vermeer,

I appreciate your quick response and your effort in following the suggested steps.

It’s great to know that the issue seems to have been resolved after you reinstalled the WooCommerce plugin. This could indicate that the previous installation had a problem, like a corrupted or missing file, which the reinstallation fixed.

Keep a close watch on your site to make sure the error doesn’t come back. If it does, we might be dealing with a more serious issue that needs attention.

Meanwhile, I would advise you to make regular backups of your entire site and database. This way, if any problems come up in the future, you can easily revert to a previous version of your site.

I also suggest you check your server error logs. They could provide additional insight if the problem returns. If you’re unsure where to find these, your hosting provider can guide you.

Feel free to reach out if the error returns or if you have any other issues or questions. We’re always ready to assist!

    Hi Tamrat,

Thank you for your elaborate answer. I will surely monitor it closely as looking at the last few weeks, woocommerce crashed already two times. As it is a staging website, there is also a live website running where everything functions as normal. So, it might be a specific something that woocommerce crashes on the staging website (maybe plugin issue or hosting issue). Thanks again and have a nice day!

    Hi @bisratlearn

As you suggested, it could be due to a hosting issue. It might also help if you could reach out to them and see any server-side issues.

Please let us know how it goes!
