Lately I have been getting a critical error when I update a page.

The website won’t load and displays a ‘critical error’ message.

In my email I get this information:-

“WordPress has a built-in feature that detects when a plugin or theme causes a fatal error on your site, and notifies you with this automated email. In this case, WordPress caught an error with one of your plugins, Site Kit by Google.”

    WordPress version 6.4.2
Active theme: Spasalon child (version 1.0)
Current plugin: Site Kit by Google (version 1.116.0)
    PHP version 7.4.33 Error Details

An error of type E_COMPILE_ERROR was caused in line 43 of the file /home//public_html/wp-content/plugins/google-site-kit/includes/loader.php. Error message: require_once(): Failed opening required ‘/home/public_html/wp-content/plugins/google-site-kit/includes/Context.php’ (include_path=’.:/opt/alt/php74/usr/share/pear’)

If I reload the page a couple of times, it seems to update ok and displays the page.

Thanks for reaching out. The error you’re encountering is a generic WordPress error that can occur when plugin conflicts or other issues occur on your site. This may not be specific to Site Kit, and despite the error indication something failed when loading a Site Kit resource, this may have been triggered by your site being down when this was resource was requested or a dependency of this resource not being available.

As you mentioned you are able to access your website at times, please share the following and I can see if I can help determine anything:

    1. Your Site Health information. You can use this form to share privately if preferred.??
    2. Does the same occur if you switch to a newer version of PHP?

Let me know if you have any questions with the above.

As we didn’t receive a response I’ll mark this as resolved. Feel free to open a new support topic if you continue to encounter issues, or reopen this topic and we’d be happy to assist.
