I know that bumping can be annoying, but the good thing is that it keeps topic on first page so other members can see it and answer faster that if its on some futher page.
The problem is that, if everyone did that, we’d have people bumping posts every 5 minutes in an effort to keep them on the first page. And, yes, we do have some users who will almost reach those levels – despite being asked to stop.
I do agree that once your post has been answered (or you’ve bumped it yourself), you are at a distinct disadvantage. As you should see at the top right of this page, there’s an option to see any topics posted 2+ hours ago without replies. Most forum volunteers check through this list regularly to pick up anything that they can deal with. As soon as there’s more than 1 post in your topic, it won’t appear on that list.
This is the point when you have to exercise a little patience. Bear in mind that anyone checking through the forums will see that your topic has had 2 replies and will probably assume it has been (or is being) dealt with. Bumping at this point will just annoy and won’t really increase your chances of being answered. So, the best option is to wait for that all-important 24 hours to pass – at which point, I’d suggest re-posting. Maybe see if there’s a better forum you could post to. Make the subject a little more descriptive. Or add some more detail to your new post – especially anything that’s been covered in your previous topic, so that no one will try to cover old ground.
Yes – it’s not ideal and, try as we might, we do miss some posts completely. Just try not to take it personally if you don’t get a response or don’t get your problem resolved first time around. It’s just the flip side of free, volunteer-based, forums. We struggle to answer everyone all of the time. ??
