I get a “credit card declined” error whenever I do a test for Stripe on my site. A customer had the same result when I added Stripe to my webpage. Now, I can’t get the Stripe credit card payment option to appear in checkout without being in test mode. Please help! I have a WordPress Twenty Fourteen theme website: HueDew.com

i am also getting this error … i’m in test mode if that matters

I wonder if it has to do with “force secure checkout?”

I went to WooCommerce>Settings>Checkout. I did not have the “force secure checkout” checked on my WordPress site. I do have the SSL certificate and have been up and running with the secure site for months.

Now I can see the stripe payment method in my cart and at checkout. I turned off the “turn off testing” after still getting “card declined.”

With testing off, I now get the error message: “Error: Failed to process the order, please try again later.”

i have force secure on (and an SSL installed) … makes no difference

edit: if i use my real card # it says declined… if i use one of stripe’s card #s it says “failed to process”

when i look inside the stripe account it shows a new customer, and the activity, but no payment to process

ok, so i just looked through the Stripe logs to see what i could find… here’s what the logs say:

“Your card was declined. Your request was in test mode, but used a non test card. For a list of valid test cards, visit: https://stripe.com/docs/testing.”

So the decline error is because i tried to use a real card while in test mode.

when i used a test card in test mode, this is what i got:

    error:
    type: “invalid_request_error”
message: “Amount must be at least 50 cents”
    param: “amount”

this is likely do to having tried to purchase a “test product” i created that was only $0.01 with free shipping.

i’m going to put this into live mode and test a small transaction. will report back my findings

ok, so here’s what i’ve found.

i went back into test mode, and ran an order for a product that is $30, i used one of stripe’s test card numbers and all worked just fine.

order shows up in woocommerce, and stripe receives payment info with “all clear”.

Great, Jedifunk. Yesterday, my site worked and today it didn’t. I turned off test and purchased a small item from my website and it went through fine. I did the same yesterday and it worked, so I don’t know why it stopped working today. I was unaware that Stripe provided “test” credit card numbers or I would have done that. We’ll see how long my site works now. Oh, I updated my WooCommerce latest version today and now Stripe works … again. I have absolutely no IT background, so all of this is new to me. Thanks for your insights.

Glad to see you guys worked through this and figured it out, I’ll outline the problems you guys were having from my understanding. I’ll just go in order from top to bottom highlighting the symptom and the cause.

    1. To test the plugin, there are test cards defined here: https://stripe.com/docs/testing – I’ll add this link to the FAQ
    2. When the plugin is not in test mode, an ssl certificate is required. You’ll see a notice in the admin when you don’t have the “force secure checkout” option enabled.
    3. Stripe requires a minimum charge of 50 cents – In the next version of the plugin, it will be disabled if the order is less than 50 cents. It makes more sense to me to disable the plugin than give customers a message about something they can’t control.

I hope that answers any questions as to what caused these problems. If not, feel free to say so. I definitely need to update the documentation to alleviate these kinds of issues and hopefully provide answers quicker.

    Thanks,
    Stephen

Stripe is in live mode, I have purchased an item that is 4.56 and I am still getting the error “Amount must be at least 50 cents”

Amount is definitely over ., any thoughts??

    Any insights are appreciated.
    Thanks

I have the same issue, did you get past it?

I just saw a $30 charge on my credit card and can’t for the life of me figure out what it’s from or what it’s for. It’s really helpful when in the description it says “WPCHRG.COM 2385794875928769269872” – I have no idea what that means!

Can any please help me figure this out? I certainly don’t remember upgrading or anything but I don’t want to be out $30 for no good reason

@btrandblp – that looks like a charge from WordPress.COM in which case you need to ask here:

Your question is totally unrelated to this plugin, so if you want to discuss it further, please start your own thread here:
