Hi – I have successfully installed WP for a simple blog, and I think it may also be useful for creating a user-maintainable website. I’ve searched Amazon for WordPress books and it comes up with over 1,800!

Can anyone suggest a decent book that covers creating themes?

    Thanks G ??

  • Hi,
First of all, you’re a rarity… someone who wants to learn as opposed to being spoon-fed! Bravo! ??

I’ve been using WP for a long time, and have made my own themes.

I have the WordPress Bible by Aaron Brazell, and it’s very good and comprehensive, as opposed to being a beginner’s book. I recommend it if you’re pretty comfortable with web technologies.

I purchased it for advanced topics; I had actually made my themes before buying the book; the WordPress online documentation is actually pretty nice.

It’s also quite current; IMO you’ll want to avoid the books that cover really old versions of WP, and I suspect there are a lot of those still around. You can even get books for 3.0 now, I think… I haven’t played with that yet, but it’s going to be released soon.

Thanks Flamenco. I’m new to WP but have had some experience with osDate and osCommerce so I understand the principles.

Another rarity – the book is cheaper at Amazon UK than it is on Amazon.com!

    Cheers
