    Greeings Robert

I have just discovered Collapsing Categories which is great but I do need some further explanation.

I have installed Automatically Hierarchic Categories in my staging site. I have defined many categories and sub-categories. I do need some explanation on how categories and sub-categories work.

For example, I have defined the category “Diseases” with the following sub-categories.

    Diseases

    • Arthritis
    • Autoimmune Diseases and Biomimicry
    • Cardiovascular Diseases
    • Diabetes and Obesity
    • Kidney
    • Pandemics

When I attempt to assign a post to a category, some of the sub-categories are listed as a top level category. They are not nested as sub-categories of the “Diseases” category.

The examples below are NOT nested as sub-categories of “Diseases“.

    Diseases

    • Arthritis
    • Autoimmune Diseases and Biomimicry
    • Pandemics

    I have other sub-categories defined.

    Belief and Truth

    • Intuition

    Immune System

    • Dairy
    • Eggs
    • Wheat and Gluten
    • White Blood Cells

These have a similar problem as the “Diseases” categories and sub-categories.

I can assign some posts to the appropriate sub-category. Other posts I can only assign to the sub-categories which are now listed as top-level “Categories”.

The two posts below are listed in the “Diseases” category.
They are also listed in the following sub-categories.

    • The post “How to Survive a Pandemic by Michael Greger” is also listed in the “Pandemic” sub-category
    • The post “Autoimmune Diseases and Biomimicry” is also listed in the “Autoimmune Diseases and Biomimicry” sub-category.

I was expecting that the two posts above be only listed in the sub-categories, NOT in the top-level “Diseases” category.
Note that some of the posts are only shown in the sub-categories, NOT in the top-level “Diseases” category.

Does this rather convoluted explanation make sense?

Hello. I think I understand the issue. In this case, I think the plugin is working as designed. Let me use a different example to explain.

Let’s say that I have categories like so

    • A
      • X
      • Y
    • B
      • Z

If I assign category Y to post 123, then when I go to look at the archives page for category Y, I will see post 123. If I go to the archives page of category A, I will also see post 123. Thus there is no need to assign category A to post 123, since it is implicitly already assigned that.

If we take the example of biological classification, I don’t need to categorize a human as both “Homo sapiens” and “animal”, because simply saying “homo sapiens” implies “animal”. So my recommended solution would be to only remove the higher-level categories from your posts.

    I hope that helps.

On your website https://robfelty.com/plugins , you list an Image Browser plugin. Is this available to download?

You state on the webpage that you get the gallery below by utilising the shortcode?[imagebrowser category=10]. There is no gallery below.

Robert, What is the situation with this issue? The issue has been marked as resolved but unfortuately it has not. I am using the classic editor which may make a difference.

Also, I cannot see how to set categories for a post. Hide Title, Hide Post Date, Hide Post Categories, Hide Post Tags are all unchecked. I can assign tags but not categories. The assigned categories for each post is shown in the all pages list. I would be grateful if you could assist in resolving this issue. I think it is very close to working really well.
