Creating new website within existing domain. HELP PLEASE!

I realized that there have been posts about this topic already, but I think I need it broken down step by step. I am just getting my feet wet with web design and am most likely over my head a bit. Here is what I am trying to do.

I have an existing site https://www.chemedesigns.com (which I have somehow managed to direct to the HostGator startup site). I have built a new site under a sub-directory folder, https://www.chemedesigns.com/wordpress, that is alive and well. Everything is working on it. I just need to get this new site to open up when you type in https://www.chemedesigns.com.

If I could beg and/or plead for someone to help walk me through step by step in how to make my wordpress site my new site. I have read and re-read all the tutorials, but I think I need it dumbed down even more. I have access to all the controls, I just need the steps in even more layman terms (like how you get to the root directory to move files over).
