Creating new groups leads to error

Dear folks,
I’m using this plugin since years on my internal website and with all the help and comments here, it still works nicely. Until now. I just realized, that I always get an error message when I try to create a new group. I can move on until the 3rd step called “Settings”, but then I get the message “There was an error saving group details. Please try again.”. So I can’t go any further on the group creation, but when I look back to my groups overview, the group is created and shown there (with no Hierarchy and all settings on standard).
When I deactivate the BP Group Hierarchy plugin, it works just as normal creating a new groups (no errors). Do you have any ideas / solutions for me?
I assume that this has something to do with the new BuddyPress version?! And maybe a little hint could be, that the options at “Group Invitations” on the Settings page are not selected (meaning no dot on any option), which I never had before.Hope to get any requests from you, thanks in advance!
My WordPress Installation and plugins:
WordPress: 4.9.1
BuddyPress: 2.9.2.
