Creating Multiple Sortlinks Same Page

  • Live WP website, page with multiple third-party links to stories held.

    Some links massively long, looking to shorten them with shortcode, same code being created for different links, was expecting a different code for each link, cannot edit. Client does not want hyperlink from logo or such link, wants a URL link!

    Problem is that at least two are exceeding the column width and bleeding to second column under the Twitter Feed.

    Question – Is it possible to generate a different short code for each URL even though they are on the same page, it would solve problem if I could and would also look neat and tidy. Thanks.

  • Apologies for the late response on this, it’s been a busy week and it’s going to get worse!

    If I’m following you correctly, at present the WP Bitly plugin doesn’t provide an interface or option for embedding external shortlinks, and only generates shortlinks for WordPress pages, posts and custom post types.

    However. This does seem like it might be an incredibly helpful feature to add in the next release. I’ll make a note to update the shortcode and php function to allow any URL.

    I’ll post back here and let you know once this functionality is ready for prime time!

    100% right, it’s shortening external links, as some are massively long, will be great if you can amend the code and I’ll be happy to be your guinea pig when done.

    I agree it would a useful feature!

    Like you, I’m mega busy at the moment, lots on, must not complain through it pays the bills.
