Creating Galleries Based On Image Tags?

I’d like to make a site with 300 images and over 100 tags, With each tag being a category on the drop down menu. Ideally photos would automatically show up in those categories based on tags.

Besides Nextgen Gallery, which seems to get a lot of bad reviews lately, what other solutions–either plugins or themes can you suggest for this?
