Creating Custom Events

I know a handful of people have asked this question but I still seem to be having trouble with it. I noticed that the achievementsapp.com website no longer works but I did find this link:
I figure the above documentation is referring to older versions of the plugin because in a recent post you said:
“3.x uses the post table and custom taxonomies, 2.x uses custom database tables.”
How would I go about creating custom events with the latest version of this plugin?
