@krammig This sounds like it could be a limitation of the server itself due to the amount of items that are needing to be searched. Can you go to WooCommerce > Status and copy/paste the System Status Report here for us to take a look at?

Outdated Templates: ?Learn how to update

Hi @krammig,

looking through your System Status Report there are a number of items that you will want to look into updating as this may be the cause of the issue.

To begin, the WooCommerce plugin as well as your database are both outdated. Here is how you can update those:

I noticed that your site is running PHP version 5.6.36.? WooCommerce does require a minimum of version 5.6 and WordPress now recommends version 7.0. This is something your host can help you with; here’s some more information to get you started:

Lastly, it looks like your theme is running a number of outdated templates, so you will want to update those as well: https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/fix-outdated-templates-woocommerce/

Thanks for the reply. Yes I must say you are right in mentioning those outdated items. To be open I have just been too afraid of updating them as when I have done so on other sites in the past something invariably goes wrong. ??

Two other things I noticed in your systems status was…

PHP Max Input Vars: 2000
WC Database Version: 2.6.14

The PHP Max Input Vars may not be causing trouble, but I think a good minimum would be 3000. My test site has it set to 6144. The most confusing thing though is that your WC Database Version is very old. That is supposed to match with the actual version of WooCommerce you are using as well.

Since you have WooCommerce 3.3.5 your WC Database Version should also be 3.3.5. Also you may see improvements by updating WooCommerce to the current version and then let it update your database to match as well.

I’ve just had another look at the php.ini file and I was surprised to see the following ;

post_max_size = 60M

But as you say the Report shows PHP Max Input Vars: 2000 which is puzzling for me. I’m not WordPress guy I’m afraid so not sure where to look for why it would be sitting at 2000, thoughts appreciated ?

I have just found that although I am running this on a dedicated server (Windows), it seems in the Plesk control panel there are settings for a number of items including max_input_vars which was set to 2000 and it seems that is overriding the 3000 set in the php.ini file.

I have altered the Plesk setting for that site to 3000 and it seems to have made a noticeable improvement. Could be faster, but it certainly is faster than it was.
