I have just managed to get my first WordPress website up and running to display my artwork.

I have created a gallery page with sub pages built under it. I want to create a nice grid of images in the gallery page showing one image of each of my paintings so that when you click on an image it takes you to the sub page with more images of that painting.

Now I’ve worked out how to create the Gallery grid on its own. I’ve also worked out how to input a URL to an individual image to take you through to the sub page. However I have not been able to put a link to each image in a Gallery grid. Any ideas? Can this be done with WordPress standard or do I need a plug-in? if so what is the best plug-in for a professional look?

As I am new to this I will need it spelling out in detail so I can follow one step at a time.

If your theme doesn’t support gallery of it’s own, then you need a plugin. Just googled it and found this:

looks like most of them are commercial ones, but looks good.

@dasherdiablo – what theme are you using? You probably don’t need a plugin, but if you do, we recommend only using plugins from the plugin repository on this site (or possibly from reputable commercial vendors).

I’m using twenty eleven which really suits the impression I want to make. Is this function possible through this theme?

I’m about to sign off – it’s getting really late here, but someone else can possibly give you some more help, or here are some possible ideas:

WP has a built-in gallery – so see if that will do what you want.

Another option would be JetPack – which has some gallery features – among other cool things.

Or there are a bunch of gallery plugins:

I’m not sure whether all of those will do what you want, but that gives you some things to look at.
