• Hello,

I have been told that I need to set up a 301 redirect from the “https://” version of my site to the “https://www” version. I know there are plenty of 301 redirect guides out there, but I want to make sure I’m doing it exactly right.

First question – is there any way for me to know if this has already been attempted, and if the redirect is valid?

Second question – if it hasn’t been done, how do I do it? I understand the the correct method has something to do with my .htaccess file.

    Cheers!

    Tom

  • Set your preferred site URL from your dashboard. If needed reset your permalinks too. You can revert to the default and return to your custom permalinks or whatever you used. WordPress will take care of the rest, like setting redirects, etc. You do not have to setup redirects (including 301) separately.

    Hi Krishna,

    Thanks for your help.

When you say to set your preferred site URL from your dashboard, do you mean in General > Settings?

When you say that I may need to “reset” my permalinks, can you be more specific as to what exactly you mean please?

How can I verify whether or not a 301 redirect has been successfully set up?

    Cheers,

    Tom
