Creating a theme/template that's more than a blogroll
-
I want to start making my own custom themes and templates, I’ve been reading for a few weeks (Theme Development, Stepping Into Templates, Template Hierarchy etc) and I got the gist of how the files and folders are setup, and the scripts are laid out. I’m a graphic/web design student, I have basic knowledge of web programming and CMS (but a beginner in PHP), so I’m not a total newbie. Basically my question is if I want to make a more complicated template, beyond just a blogroll, with blocks of custom content on the front page that can be edited in the back-end, where do I begin?
I don’t want to just keep using other people’s themes and slightly changing them using CSS, that feels like cheating especially if someone will offer me money to build them a site.
