Creating a subfoldernetwork locks me out?

For some reason the last time i installed word press everything went fine, even the setting up the network went fine. but when it comes to logging in i enter the password and the page refreshes and the password box is blank with no error message. this is the third time i have re-installed word press because of this. any suggestions?
