Creating a persistent unique custom field

I am working with an organization that is considering migration from their current website to a GiveWP website. I would like to know if this is possible: When a donor creates a recurring donation, we would like to populate a custom field in the donations record with a unique ID (or with the current date/time), only when the donor makes the original donation. All subsequent donations generated by the recurring donations add-on would have the original value assigned to this field, so that each time we download donations into our database program, we would be able to programmatically connect all donations that have been generated for each ARB. Is this possible?
