My company is creating a new division that focusses on a new market. I have to create a new page (easy part) with a different layout(please help!), I have read on multiple forums that it isn’t done by adding a new theme but creating a page template. Is this correct? If so I need help finding/creating a page template to use and I don’t not know how to install it..

This is where your theme choice comes in especially if you are a new user. Not many new users create a new template from scratch. You may want to look into drag and drop options like Divi or Shadow. Just google those 2 names or check out the WordPress Codex for creating templates.

Hi Kmason – yes it is done by creating a new page template. This is going to take accessing your website via FTP or Cpanel so that you can either copy and paste an existing page template or to create from scratch a new one.

You’ll need to understand PHP and some HTML. It can be a little intimidating, but it’s pretty doable. Do you already have an idea of what elements (sidebar, page content, header, menu, etc…) needs to be on the new page layout?

Thanks bigswp I read a little more up on the codex and everything but that went over my head with the terminology and everything.

Webtegrity I am not being too picky on the page template. I was wanting to switch the layout a little bit, change the colors and the way the navigation menu looks. Is there free pre-made templates that I can plug in and use?

Page templates are theme specific. What theme are you using? Where did you download it from?

It is a custom one that a web designer made for us

Then you may need to contact the original developer about this.

What if that was not an option?

Then I’m sorry but we cannot really help with custom themes as we have no idea how they were constructed. I can only suggest that you contact the original developers of the theme or try hiring someone to look into this for you.
