Creating new WP install w/ add-on domain URL that's presently directed elsewhere
-
So I have a WP blog at a different web host. I want to move it to my new webhost before cancelling the old one, but I want to use this opportunity to rebuild the blog altogether (it’s not really a blog, it’s just 5 static pages, so no database transfer issues here).
So I created/installed a new WP install in my new host, where it will be placed in a directory called:
/public_html/mysmallblog.com
This is to be an add-on domain, buried under my current non-wp site called https://www.mywebsite.com.
Once I have this new WP install built, I’ll redirect my domain name https://www.mysmallblog.com to this directory and it will be done, then I’ll delete my old host account.
However, my trouble is this: when I go to my new WP website at https://www.mywebsite.com/mysmallblog.com/wp-admin to login, it redirects me to:
That is, it redirects me to the live site for logging in. Once I get things fully moved over that will be fine, but for now it is directing me to the live site and thus a different WP install.
How do I temporarily disable these redirects so that it stays on my hidden underconstruction site buried at https://www.mywebsite.com/mysmallblog.com/wp-admin
?
Hopefully that makes sense… it seems more convoluted written out here than it really is…
Thanks,
Derek
