    Hi,
I’m a very new user to WP with about 4 months use of it, so I’m sorry if this is the most obvious action.

I would like to totally redesign our front page (and then others later), but not publish it until it is finished, then remove the old (current) page. About 15 years ago, I did just this for a work based system (not WP), where you create new parent and child pages, but they remained invisible until you are finished and had final approval to publish.

Of course, if this is possible, I would then like to understand how to swap it over!
Many thanks in advance (fingers crossed).

  • You can create Pages and Posts and choose what status they should have. You can keep them in Draft status, which means they are not published to the world. Or you can change the visibility to Private and then Publish. These are only seen by those with the right user roles.

    Content Visibility

There are also lots of plugins to manage the status and visibility in different ways.

To change which page is used as the home page, you go to Settings > Reading and choose there. The Page needs to be public though.

@joyously, thank you. I will give that a go.
