• I’ve just purchased a new theme for my website, but before I install it I’d like to do some testing first. However, I don’t want to do the testing on the live site. I’d like to have a copy of the website to do the testing. Does anyone have any experience with this? What is the easiest most practical way of testing out site changes so that it doesn’t effect the live website?

  • If you want a totally separate install:
    Download wp-content from existing site
    Export database
Install WP on a separate directory in your hosting account.
Create new database connected to new WP
Configure a sub domain pointed at the new directory
Upload wp-content via ftp with overwrite
    Import database
