• With the advent of 1.5 and the ability to create Pages in WordPress as well as Posts, there now comes the possibility of creating complete websites using WordPress, not just blogs.

This is something I’d love to do and I have experimented a bit with it (see https://www.tomrafteryit.net/).

What I’m wondering is, is there a guide somewhere on how best to do create a full site using WordPress? I’m only figuring it out as I go and have made several basic mistakes already!

Any howto’s out there for this?

    Thanks,

    Tom.

  • I’ve been doing this for a while, and am in the process of doing several new sites using WP as the engine. Works well, just takes some planning.

You might search here for “cms” to get some tips on implementing WP for use beyond just blogging.

In my mind, though, the bigger challenge is your theme…making your site look un-bloglike (for those who are trying for a Web site look vs a blog look while using WP).

    True,

I’ll need to hack the theme – I am in investigation mode for now before I get down to planning and ultimate rollout.

I’ll do a search for cms as you suggest, thanks. I had previously searched for ‘create website’ both here and in the codex but didn’t find anything relevant (possibly because of too many hits!).
