Last two days my site has had a strange 500 internal error on half the posts. With the help of my webhost narrowed it down to when updated the Jetpack plugin to current version as of 06 Aug 2014

When active get 500 internal error when deactivate error goes away.

My site has been using jetpack since it was launched so many years with the plugin.

    Hi,

On the impacted pages, are you using the [youtube] shortcode? If so, this problem has been fixed and will be part of Jetpack 3.1.1, which will be released very soon.

    Thanks!

Hi Brandon, yes I used the youtube shortcode and that explains why only certain pages went down. Unfortunately those were my high traffic pages so I noticed a 50% drop in traffic which alerted me to the problem on the site.

I have taken off all the youtube and vimeo shortcode now as I have the plugin deactivated. I’m using wordpress’s core built in youtube url to video conversion.

I like WordPress’ core process now (for those following along, just pasting the URL unlinked on a line by itself will trigger WordPress to embed the video) and generally do suggest that to people.

    Our shortcode predates that ability.

I’m sorry for the pain and hassle. The developers aren’t online yet, but I’d expect 3.1.1 to ship in the next day or so.
