I’m learning how to use the Block Editor for the first time. I’ve started with the 2024 default theme and I’ve started making my own page templates in the Block Editor. Somehow I’ve managed to create and apply a Front Page template to my home page without any problem but when I create another Template in the Block Editor I’m unable to apply it to a separate static page. Only the default templates + my front page template appear in any template dropdown menus.

I’ve created a Pages:About template in the Block Editor and applied it only to an /about page (which I created earlier), but when I navigate to /about I find that it’s using my front page template. If I edit the page in the Block Editor and try to swap the template I only see the 2024 default Page templates as options.

Perhaps you created the “wrong” kind of template.

I’m not sure what you did here… perhaps you created a PAGE and not a template?

What you need to do is create a CUSTOM TEMPLATE. This is the only type of template that you can apply to any arbitrary page or post (and will be available for selection, along with the default templates, in the post editor).

That did the trick, thanks so much for the quick reply!
